WHY? The majority of our families not only live in conditions of extreme poverty, as a consequence of the social exclusion that marks their lives, but they are all but excluded from opportunities for development and change. We are confronted by high unemployment rates and so suffer from a lack of economic resources. The majority of the children who live in our communities do not attend school regularly because they have to work and help their families, as as consequence illiteracy rates have reached 80%. Our villages suffer from a scarcity of essential resources such as: clean water, electricity, food, footwear, clothing clothes and decent housing, .
WHERE? The project is currently working with the following communities: Agua Tibia, Loma Alta, Tizatal, Potrero Viejo, Las Vigas, Cacabal la Nueva Esperanza, Tapesquillo I, II, III and IV, Colonia Buena Tierra and La Puerta. All the communities belong to the Chinique Council, in the Deparmtent of El Quiché, Republic of Guatemala.
WHO? Maya and Ladin ethnic families living in the Chinique Council municipality. We are an association that welcomes, without any ethnic, religious or any other type of discrimination, all those living in our municipality.OUR AIMS? Our work is based on a far reaching and inclusive vision that seeks to address for our members’ needs and concerns.
OUR GOALS? To improve the our members’ quality of life by reducing the levels of poverty and extreme poverty.
HOW? On the one hand, through self-determination, autarky and non-dependence on external resources, and on the other, by living autonomously and producing our own resources.
WHEN? Over the course of 10 years we aim to accomplish all of our objectives

September 2005 (self-funded)- Maya Culture: through Spiritual Ceremonies based on Mayan cosmology we offer thanks for the work we have been able to carry out and ask for guidance in seeking new directions. The ceremonies are performed every three months during project.
September 2005 (self-funded)-Soil conservation: construction of irrigation ditches and terraces for growing organic vegetables in the 7 communities.- Construction of 300 ‘green’ compost resources in the 7 communities
January 2006/December 2006 (Funded by: TANIT and APROSERS)- Launch of demonstration vegetable garden allotments for schools and the 7 communities.- Training of participants from the 7 communities
May 2006/ July 2006 (Funded by: MAGA)- Construction of a greenhouse in the Agua Tibia community.
- Conditioning of an irrigation spring in the Agua Tibia community September/November 2006 (self-funded)- - Construction of 300 ‘green’ compost resources in the 7 communities
January 2007 (Funded by: APROSERS)- Construction of a flour mill in the Tapesquillo II community
January/ May 2007 (Funded by: TANIT and APROSERS)- Increased sowing of potatoes and vegetables in the community plantations to assure sufficient food production.
April/May 2007 (Funded by: ASODIR, TANIT and MAGA)- Introduction of drip irrigation system
September 2007 (Funded by: MAGA)- Supply of pesticide spraying pumps to 5 communities
September/November 2007 (self-funded)- Construction of 900 ‘green’ compost resources in the 7 communities, three for every family.
February/May 2008 (Funded by: TANIT y MAGA)- Extension of community and school vegetable allotments. March 2008 (Funded by: ASODIR y MAGA)- Educational training sessions: educational project in horticultural techniques for the village schools, coordinated with the schools’ teachers .
July 2008 (Funded by: Unidad Técnica)- Planting of fruit trees (Potrero Viejo community, 5 trees for every family, a total number of 320 trees). Future Projects to be undertaken- Chicken and pigs barns - Textiles project (Traditional weaving)
